PVS to Honor its 2003-04 Outstanding Athletes

American Record Holder Kate Ziegler to Present Awards

PVS will be formally recognizing many of its swimmers on the next two weekends for their significant swimming accomplishments. Many athletes will be recognized as the most outstanding athlete in their age bracket for their performances during the 2003-04 season (September 1 - August 31.) These swimmers were nominated for this honor and were selected by a vote of the coaches at the Fall Competition Committee. PVS will also be recognizing its fastest male and female distance swimmer in both short course and long course last year.

Those swimmers participating in the PVS Senior Championship Meet will be recognized at the start of the Sunday finals session of that meet on Sunday, March 6 at approximately 5:50PM. The meet will be held at Prince George Sports and Learning Complex.

Those swimmers participating in the PVS 14/Under Junior Olympic Age Group Championship will be honored at the start of Sunday final session of that meet on Sunday, March 13 at approximately 5:50PM. The meet will be held at George Mason University..

PVS is very pleased that American record holder and FINA World Cup Champion, Kate Ziegler will present the awards to the younger Outstanding Swimmers for the 2003-2004 season, and the High Point Awards on Sunday, March 13th during the finals session at the PVS Junior Olympic Championships held at George Mason University.

Ziegler's new record shattered the oldest American record, previously set in 1980, for the 800m short course freestyle by more than two seconds. Ziegler's time was 8:16.32.

Kate Ziegler is a 16-year-old from Great Falls Virginia. She swims for Coach Ray Benecki with the PVS team the FISH.

PVS is proud to recognize her as the latest member of the PVS family to make the international stage and make her mark. We congratulate Kate on her new record and look forward to more achievements during her promising swimming career.
