NOMINATIONS FOR BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Bill Marlin -- Age Group Vice-Chair

Hello. I am once again running for the position of PVS Age Group Chairman. I have been a very active memebr of the PVS Board the past seven years, serving as PVS Coaches Rep. for 5 years and Age Group Chairman for the past 2 years. I would once again like to serve you in this position. I have served the past seven years with out a personal agenda and always have the best interest of the LSC at heart. Since taking over as Age Group Chairman, I have added a few new recognition awards for our swimmers, (18 & U Distance Swimmer of the Year & the Disability Swimmer of the Year), added PVS as one of the LSC's participating in the Age Group Coach of the Year Award, changed the order of events at the PVS Open meets to allow the IMX events to be placed so they are not back-to-back events and moved some of the more popular events to the end of the session to allow for more parents to stay and help, lead the charge to allow dive over starts in our LSC, currently leading the charge to allow chase starts in our LSC, took over as PVS Distance Coordinator (3 years ago) and instituted the new policy for entering distance events, brought Zones back to our LSC and I continue to run 70% of the PVS meets in our LSC. I feel that I have done a lot for this LSC and would like the chance to continue improving our LSC over the next two years. Thank You!

Jim Thompson -- Strategic Vice-Chair

During the past term, I had the opportunity to serve as the interim Strategic Planning Chair. From this experience I learned first hand about the complexity of PVS's operation, the longer term issues facing the organization and the importance for PVS to communicate with key stakeholders, such as the region's recreational services. I plan to use my experience and skills in data analysis and quantitative methods to tell of the value PVS brings to our community. The past four years as a member on the Officials Committee further demonstrates my commitment to PVS. During this period two of my major accomplishments were developing a process for collecting and reporting on official’s participation at meets and coordinating the work to write the dive-over start guideline. The use of dive-over starts in PVS meets has improved the meet experience. I continue to be an active official who regularly works meets ranging from minis to championship meets. I look forward to serving PVS.

NOMINATIONS FOR BOARD OF REVIEW (in alphabetical order)

Arthur Lopez

Thank you for your consideration as a member of the PVS Board of Review. As a Coach, former official and father of two daughters raised through the ranks of PVS Swimming I believe my experience can help contribute to our organization. I have been a licensed attorney (California & Illinois) for 25 years, served as a civil rights professional, as a mediator for workplace disputes for over 12 years, and within the field of ethics, for the federal government. I am the founder of Nadar Por Vida, an outreach program introducing low income, at risk, latino and minority kids and families to the sport we love. I am on the Diversity Committee for USA Swimming serve on various committees for the FCPS Board.

Virginia Ratcliff

I’m in my first year as Athlete Representative to the PVS Board. I’ve been a US Swim athlete since I was 8. In the past 2 years, 2 age group swimmers have found themselves up for review before the Board of Review. I want to represent the athletes and make sure they have a peer on the review panel. Not all reviews will be about swimmers. I’m a Hy-Tek certified PVS official, I’m training on Colorado, and I’ve assisted on the officials table at Tom Dolan Invitational, Sr. Champs and Sectionals. I have good grasp of a lot of the situations likely to be presented to the Board for Review.

Don Riedlinger

While it is obviously desired that there be no problems that require convening the PVS Board of Review, I have attended two separate workshops during Conventions dealing with the proper conduct of any such proceedings. I have also previously served on the PVS BOD. I assure the PVS members that if I am elected to the Board of Review, any inquiry will be conducted formally and fairly based upon the evidence of the complaint in order to better serve all who participate in swimming.

Robert "Bob" Vincent

I am honored to be considered for a position on the review board and I stand committed to the highest standards of professional and personal conduct. As an organization dedicated to promoting swimming and fostering equal access for competitive opportunities, we want our decisions and actions to consistently demonstrate integrity, honesty, fairness and truth to our members.

Is it fair? Is it the truth? Is it the right thing to do? If the answer to any of these questions is other than "yes," then another approach should be developed and implemented. I am not afraid to make difficult decisions because it’s not personal; it’s about focusing on the swimmers.

My experience as an official and an active parent of both a parent-owned and a coach-owned team in support of our family’s swimmers will allow me to gather the right information to make the right decision for PVS and our members.
