Notes from Eastern Zone Meeting

Special Notes: These are unofficial notes on what occurred at the Eastern Zone meeting. The official minutes are not yet available.
Speedo Championship Series is the meet formerly referred to as "Sectionals."


The following significant items were decided and/or reported upon:
  • SCY Zones for 2003 will be held at Gloucester County Institute of Technology in Sewell, New Jersey, on March 27-29, 2003
  • Selection of PVS 14/U athletes will be at end of Age Group JO Championships (subject to PVS Board approval)
  • Selection of PVS 15-18 athletes will be at end of Speedo Championship Series Championships (subject to PVS Board approval)


  • SCY Speedo Championship Series EZ Section II Meet will be held March 20-23, 2003 at Gloucester County Institute of Technology in Sewell, New Jersey


  • The following meets will be bid at the Eastern Zone meeting held in conjuction with the annual USAS convention in Dallas, TX September 10-14, 2002
  • EZ Speedo Championship Series -- both Region 1 and Region 2
  • LCM Summer 2003
  • SCY Spring 2004
  • LCM Summer 2004
  • Eastern Zone Meet
  • LCM Summer 2003
  • SCY Spring 2004
  • LCM Summer 2004
  • Any PVS clubs interested in bidding for any of these meets should contact the General Chairman and Administrative Office well prior to this meeting.


  • The following changes to the Eastern Zone meet format were proposed and approved as noted.
  • Addition of 200 Stroke (Back, Breast, Fly) for 11-12 year old age group --- PASSED
  • Addition of 400/500 Freestyle for 10/U age group -- PASSED
  • Addition of 400 IM for 11-12 year old age group -- FAILED
  • Addition of 800/1000 and 1500/1650 Freestyle for 11-12 yeard old age group -- FAILED
  • Initial QT's for new 11-12 200M strokes for LCM meets will be based on the current ratio of 13-14 QT's for 200M vs 100M for the comparable event.
  • NOTE: These events will be added to the meet schedule starting in Spring 2003. The Zone Technical Committee will recommend to the Eastern Zone how these events will be incorporated into a revised Order of Events.


  • The following changes to the Eastern Zone LC All-Star meet were proposed and approved.
  • QT's for all 10/U and 11-12 Boy's events will be set equal to the current equivalent 10/U and 11-12 Girl's event
  • NOTE: This change will be effective Summer 2002.


  • A vote will be taken at this year's USAS meeting in Dallas whether to combine the current two Eastern Zone Speedo Championship Series Meet into a single meet. -- "Super" Meet


  • Speedo Championship Series Section II QT's for 800/1000 and 1500/1650 Freestyle will be set based on the 40th fastest QT expected.
  • This change will be effective Spring 2003.


  • The following significant news from the USA Swimming Board of Directors Meeting on May 4 was presented to the Zone Meeting.
  • The USA Swimming Board received and discussed a major Goverance Study. All parties were urged to become familiar with the far reaching proposals contained in this report. The proposed changes will not be voted upon until the September 2003 USA Swimming convention.
  • .
  • The USA Swimming House of Delegates will be asked to approve an increase in USA Swimming share of athlete and non-athlete dues from $25 to $40. If passed at the 2002 USA Swimming convention, it would become effective for the 2004 registration year.
  • Splash TV has been restructured. First show is 3:30pm on Sunday, June 2.
  • New requirements are now in place for clubs joining USA Swimming for the first time.
  • "Duel in the Pool" to be held against Australia -- April 6, 2003


  • Proposed PVS Implementation
  • (subject to PVS Board approval)
  • 200 stroke events (back, breast, fly) for 11-12 year old age group and 400/500 Freestyle for 10/U year old age group will be:
  • kept in the PVS Open meet program.
  • added to PVS JO SC Champs for the 2002-03 Championships
  • added to PVS LC Age Grp I or II and PVS LC Age Grp Champs for 2003
  • PVS 2003 SCY Champs will have a NFT only cut of Speedo Championship Series and will be a 15/Over meet.
