Mini Camp
We have scheduled the PVS 8 & Under Mini Camp for Sunday, April 29th. Irene is working on a location - we hope to be back at Wakefield Park again. The notice & application will be posted on the Web page and emailed to the clubs when we have the location set.

Special Note (added February 11, 2001) The Mini Camp will be held at the Montgomery County Aquatic Center (MAC)

A separate solicitation will be sent to the clubs asking for volunteer coaches and athletes to help with the camp.

I will be reviewing the Camp with PVS Camp coordinator Kerry Ellett.

Demise of JR Nationals
After seeing for myself and talking to many athletes and coaches I am left with the following impressions:

  • Because of the termination of Jr Nationals there is a visible decline in effort of our non-Sr. National Swimmers.
  • The athletes with Sr national cuts don't see Sectionals as an important meet. It is just another meet at GMU.
  • The Sr National time is so far out of reach for those athletes that don't already have a Sectional cut they are not even trying to strive for it.
  • The athletes that do not have a Sr National time do not see Sectionals as the big meet to try to make.

Zone Coach Election
In September, the Competition Committee recommended that Zone Coach elections for the assistant coaches take place at the Age Group Champs Meet for the 12 & under coaches (2) and at the SCY Champs Meet for the 13 & over coaches (2).

Special Note (added February 11, 2001) The election of the two additional 13/Over Zone Coaches will take place at the Sectional Meet -- per the Septeber 26, 2000 Competition Committee action.

Coaches will be given until the end of Sunday Prelims to complete the nomination process. A nomination form will be posted at the meet. Ballots can be picked up by a club representative at the beginning of the Sunday finals session and a ballot box will be available through the close of the meet.

The JR Coaches Representative and the Administrative Staff will count the AG ballots and the elected coaches names will be posted on the PVS Web Page the following day.

The SR Coaches Representative and the Administrative Staff will count the 13 & over ballots and the elected coaches names will be posted on the PVS Web Page the following day.

Coach Representative Election Proposal: Ballots will be mailed to all PVS registered coaches 10 days prior to the first championship meet of the Long Course season. Each ballot will have a control number no affiliated with any particular coach. Ballots can be dropped in a ballot box any time during any of the three championship meets. The Coaches Representative not up for re-election and the Administrative staff will count the ballots. The election results will be posted on the PVS Web Page the day following the last Long Course Meet of the season.
