Please note the following rules about body suits.

FINA rule GR 6.4 states: "Before any swimsuit of new design (i.e. body suits), construction or material is used in competition, the manufacturer of such swimsuit must submit the swimsuit to FINA and obtain approval of FINA".

As of today [January 31, 2001], ONLY the following have been approved by FINA:

Adidas, Arena, Speedo, Tyr

Other brands cannot be worn until they are in compliance with the above rule.

Supplmental Guidance sent February 6, 2001
From USA Swimming National Team Director, Dennis Pursley....

In a recent email, I referred to FINA rule GR 6.4, "Before any swimsuit of new design, construction or material is used in competition, the manufacturer of such swimsuit must submit the swimsuit to FINA and obtain approval of FINA". It is my understanding that this rule applies ONLY to swimsuits which have been introduced to the market since November 14, 2000, and that all suits and brands that were available and in compliance with FINA rules PRIOR to November 14, 2000 DO NOT require approval. It is also my understanding that this new rule is applicable to FINA sponsored international competition only. I have requested clarification from FINA and will notify you of their response. (emphasis added)

I have also been asked to inform you that Nike has introduced a new suit to the market and has applied for FINA approval.
