Thursday Distance

A 30 minute warm-up will be awarded immediately following the conclusion of the PVS Senior LC Championship meet.  Athletes may also warm-up in the continuous warm-up /warm-down pool.

  30 minutes Following the end of Seniors, but not earlier than 6:15 pm
Exact time will be determined after number of expected heats in PVS Senior Champs is known. -- If a limited number of entries are received, swimmers in Thursday's Distance events may be combined with PVS Senior Champs (for seeding only) -- and seeded after those swimmers.  In this event, no separate warm-up will be provided.

Important Notice: Warm-up and Session Start Times are subject to adjustment once entries for both PVS Senior Long Course and PVS Junior Championships have been received.
Eligibility: Open to Potomac Valley Swimming registered athletes age 13 & Over as of the first day of the meet.
Inclusion Policy for Swimmers with a Disability PVS and host clubs along with their Meet Directors are committed to the Inclusion Policy as adopted by the BOD . Athletes with a disability are welcomed and are asked to provide advance notice of desired accommodations to the Meet Director and PVS Senior Chairman (Don Riedlinger at The athlete (or the athlete’s coach) is also responsible for notifying the session referee of any disability prior to the competition.

Any club that enters an unregistered or improperly registered athlete, falsifies an entry in any way, or permits an unregistered coach, or a coach with expired or incomplete certifications to represent them, will be fined the sum of $100.00 and no further entries will be accepted from that club until the said fine has been paid.

Entry fees are due with meet entry. Unpaid fees will be reported to the PVS Administrative Office at the conclusion of the meet.

  • Current USA Swimming rules shall govern the meet. A contestant may compete in a maximum of seven (7) individual events, and compete in no more than three (3) individual events per day.
  • Contestants may NOT enter an event they are eligible to swim at either the PVS 2007 Senior LC Champs or PVS 2007 14/Under LC Champs.
  • Note: A 15/O athlete is not eligible to swim an event at 14/U Champs because of their age.
  • An athlete may not swim in an event at this meet if they have entered it as bonus event at PVS 2007 Senior LC Championship
  • Any athlete who exceeds the "Slower Than" times for PVS Junior Champs after the submission of entries is precluded from competing in that event at this meet.
  • All entry times must be actually achieved LCM times that were swum after July 3, 2005. No "NO TIMES" are permitted nor are times converted to LCM. Times achieved prior to July 3, 2005 that would make an athlete ineligible by reason of being "too fast" do not apply, providing the athlete does not have another official time after this date that would make him ineligible.

    No late entries are permitted for this meet.

    Dive-over starts may be used at this meet at the discretion of the Meet Manager and/or Meet Referee. Coaches are requested to review Guidance for Dive-Over Starts for Coaches.  Officials are requested to review Protocol for Dive-Over Starts.   A determination whether to do so will be made shortly after entries for this meet have been processed.  The Meet Manager has determined that Dive-Over Starts will be used at all sessions.

Positive Check In: All Events will be Positive check-in.   Positive check-in Events 1 & 2 (Thursday's Distance) is at 6:00 PM.  Positive check-in for all events for Friday, Saturday and Sunday sessions ends 30 minutes following the start of Warm-ups.  Check-in schedule will be announced once entries have been received.  Swimmers who do not check-in will be scratched from that event. Athletes who have checked in, have been seeded, and fail to swim the event will be barred from their next scheduled individual event.
800/1500 Freestyle: The 800 and 1500 M Freestyle will be swum Fast to Slow and alternating Women and Men. Swimmers are responsible for providing their own lap counter (optional) and timer (required.) Swimmers in Thursday's events may swim as part of PVS Senior Champs -- seeded after those swimmers.
Warm-up: The prescribed Potomac Valley Swimming warm-up procedures and safety policies will be followed. The meet director may determine the structure of the warm-up, including times and lane assignments.
Late Entries/ Time Trial: No late (deck) entries will be accepted.
Time trials will not be conducted at this meet.
Supervision: Coaches are responsible for the conduct of their swimmers and for cleaning up their team areas.
Scoring: Events: 20, 17, 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 9, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1
Officials: All certified officials wishing to volunteer to work this meet please contact the Club Officials Chairman, Art Davis, 703-625-9288 or prior to July 3. Please include your club affiliation, certifications held, and sessions you wish to work. Officials volunteering should sign in at the recording table prior to the start of Warm-ups. Certified officials who have not previously advised of their availability may volunteer their services to the Referee at this time.
Timers:Participating clubs are required to provide timers in proportion to their entries. The meet director will determine the number of timers per club and lane assignments. The host club(s) are required to provide one timer per lane.
Admission Programs: There is no admission charge. Program for all sessions will be available for $4.50.
Fees: Fees for individual events are $5.00.
Meet Entry Procedures: General Instructions:
  • Entries may be submitted (1) manually, (2) by sending a disk to the meet director or (3) via e-mail.
  • Follow the instructions under the appropriate heading below. The immediately following rules apply regardless of method chosen.
    • Each club is requested to remit one check to cover the entry fees for the entire team. Please put the club name on the entry check (if not a club check) and note the number of entries. Please do not send cash. Meet directors have been instructed not to accept telephone or fax entries.
    • All 800 and 1500 entries must include verification of time (date & meet). Including this information with Hy- Tek file satisfies this requirement. Entries without verification will not be accepted. Entries in the 800 and 1500 Freestyle events may need to be limited by time constraints.
    • Entries not submitted on the required forms, not complete, not legible or not in the required electronic format, will not be accepted and will be returned. The Meet Director will not be held responsible if there is no time to properly resubmit the entry.
    • Individual or unattached entries will only be accepted by manual entry sent to the address listed below.
    • Optional: Before preparing your entries, events for this meet can be downloaded and then imported into team manager. (download "") unzip it and then go to team manager/file/import/meet events). To download as a file, you may need in Netscape to right click on the mouse and select "Save Link as" and with Microsoft Explorer right click on the mouse and select "Save Target As"

    • IMPORTANT: NFT QT's in the file are for both 15/Over and 13-14 year old swimmers . The NFT QT's for 13-14 year old swimmers are slower.  Please make sure any 13-14 year old swimmers entered into the meet do not have a QT for the PVS 2007 Age Group 14/U Long Course Championship Meet.

Manual Entries:
  • Manual entries must be submitted on the PVS master entry sheet. Also submit a completed "entry cover sheet". Signature and phone number of a club official must be included with entry for validation of entries.
  • There will be a $1.00 surcharge per athlete for manual entries of 10 or more.
Disk Entries:
  • Submit the Hy-Tek commlink II file along with an "entry cover sheet." The team manager meet entry report files must also be sent one by swimmer and one by event. The name and phone number of the club representative submitting the email must also be included.
E-mail Entries:
  • Club E-mail entries will be accepted provided the transmission time is prior to entry deadline.
  • Attach one report by event, one by name (save as Word for Windows in Team Manager)
  • Attach commlink file
  • In body of e-mail give total number of splashes (men, women, total entry) and contact information (name, phone, e-mail address)
  • Remember to also send entry fee check via USPS
  • Clubs submitting by email should submit entries to or , in the subject heading type, "2007 PVS LC Junior Champs - ****" with the club's initials substituted in place of the asterisks.
  • Meet Directors are requested to acknowledge receipt by return e-mail within 24 hours. Clubs submitting entries that do NOT receive an acknowledgement should contact the Meet Director by other than e-mail to confirm receipt.
Deadline: The Meet Director must receive all entries for this meet no later than
5:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 3, 2007.

Important: The above date is the deadline for clubs to submit their entries to the Meet Director. Therefore, clubs usually set an earlier deadline to receive entries from their swimmers. Check with your club for this information.
