Eligibility:

Open to all registered Potomac Valley Swimming athletes. A contestant may participate in only his or her own age group.

Qualifying Times

Contestants must have equaled or bettered the applicable no slower than (NST) SCY times listed. Qualifying times must have been achieved subsequent to February 26, 2000.

Warnings:

Any club that enters an unregistered or improperly registered athlete, falsifies an entry in any way, or permits an unregistered coach to represent them, will be fined the sum of $100.00 and no further entries will be accepted from that club until the said fine has been paid.

All entry times and USA Swimming memberships are subject to verification. Any athlete not achieving a QT, may be asked to prove the entry time to the Meet Director prior to the end of the meet.

Entry fees are due with meet entry. Unpaid fees will be reported to the PVS Administrative Office at the conclusion of the meet.

Rules:

Current USA Swimming rules shall govern the meet. All events are timed finals. A contestant may enter no more than three events per day or six for the meet. Positive check-in is required for all individual and relay events 400 yards and longer These events will be seeded on the deck. Swimmers and relay teams not checked-in will be scratched from that event. Athletes who have checked in, been seeded, and fail to swim the event will be barred from their next scheduled individual event.

No late entries are permitted for this meet.

Individual Events:

All individual events are trials and finals, except the 12 & Under 500 Freestyle, and the 1000 & 1650 Freestyle, which will be, timed finals. Except as noted above, the 10 & Under events will have 1 final heat. The 11-12, 12 & Under, 13-14, and 14 & Under events will have two final heats which will be swum fastest to slowest. A contestant may compete in a maximum of six (6) individual events, and compete in no more than three (3) individual events per day.

Special Note: It is anticipated preliminaries will be conducted in separate courses for Men and Women. Athletes should select their events with that in mind.

12/U 500, 1000 & 1650 Timed Finals:

The 12 & Under 500, 1000 and 1650 freestyle events will be swum fastest to slowest and will alternate women and men if only one course is used. If two courses are used, the slowest heats may be moved to permit both courses to finish at approximately the same time. The fastest heat of the Women's 1000 and Men's 1650 will be swum as the first event of the evening program on Sunday. Positive check-in is required. Verification of time must be submitted with entry.

Relays:

All relays are timed finals and will be swum in preliminary sessions. There is no limit on the number of entries per club, but only two relay teams per club per relay event may score.

Withdrawing from Finals:

PVS scratch rules apply for swimmers scratching finals. If a swimmer fails to properly scratch from a final event and does not appear for the final, he/she "will be barred from further competition for the remainder of the meet".

Awards:

Medals will be awarded 1st through 8th place for individual events and 1st through 3rd place for relay events. High point awards will be presented to the male and female athlete with the highest point total in individual events in the following age groups: 10-under, 11-12 & 13-14. (Points awarded in 14-UN events will go toward 13-14 high point totals, points awarded in 12-UN events will go towards 11-12 high point totals. Relay events will NOT be used to determine high point awards.)

Relays: 40, 34, 32, 30, 28, 26, 24, 22, 18, 14, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2

Officials:

Officials assigned to this meet sign in at the recording table at the start of the warm-up. Certified officials, who have not been contacted, should volunteer their services to the referee.

Timers:

Participating clubs are required to provide timers in proportion to their entries. The meet director will determine the number of timers per club and lane assignments. The host club is required to provide one timer per lane.

Supervision:

Coaches are responsible for the conduct of their swimmers and for cleaning up their team areas.

Credentials:

Parents not working the meet as a deck official, volunteer lane timer, or other meet position are not permitted on deck. Only athletes, USA Swimming certified coaches, and deck officials are permitted on the pool deck. Coaches and deck officials are required to display their current USA Swimming card.

Admission Programs:

There is no admission charge. The meet program will be available for $10.00 and will include a finals program coupon for each finals session. Working Officials will receive a daily program free.

Fees:

Fees for individual events are $3.75; relay events are $7.25.

Meet Entry Procedures:

  • Each club is requested to remit one check to cover the entry fees for the entire team. Please put the club name on the entry check (if not a club check) and note the number of entries. Please do not send cash. Meet directors have been instructed not to accept telephone entries.
  • Computer disk entries (Hy-Tek) require a meet entry report by swimmer and a meet entry report by event from team manager. Entries may also be submitted on the PVS master entry sheet. Also submit a completed "entry cover sheet". Signature and phone number of a club official must be included with entry for validation of entries.
  • Relays may be submitted by either Hy-Tek or PVS master entry sheet.
  • Entries not submitted on the required forms, are not complete or are not legible, will not be accepted and will be returned. The Meet Director will not be held responsible if there is no time to properly resubmit the entry.
  • There will be a $1.00 surcharge per athlete for manual entries of 10 or more.
  • Optional: Before preparing your entries, events for this meet can be downloaded and then imported into team manager. (download "23tmentry.zip" then go to team manager/file/import/meet events). To download as a file, you may need in Netscape to right click on the mouse and select "Save Link as" and with Microsoft Explorer right click on the mouse and select "Save Target As"
